About idol-Lips
Idol-Lips is a lip-plumping cosmetic that’s claimed to help you achieve fuller, sexier, celebrity lips in seconds. According to the manufacturer, idol-Lips uses the latest technologies to instantly plump, hydrate, and moisturize your lips, which can help you get the lips you’ve always wanted, and to feel more confident and powerful.

In order to plump your lips with idol-Lips, the company claims you should use the cosmetic 1-3 times per day by applying a thin layer to each lip. The manufacturer claims you may “experience a warm, tingling sensation and/or the appearance of smooth redness on the surface of the lips,” although this is normal (we’ll talk more about this in a moment).

But is this really the case? In other words, will idol-Lips really give you the celebrity-esque lips you’ve always wanted, and will the results provide good value for your money? Consider the following:

Does idol-Lips Really Use the “Latest Technologies?”
According to the idol-Lips website, the lip plumper contains the following ingredients:

Hydrogenated Polyisobutene – A synthetic oil that’s used in cosmetics to help skin retain moisture and prevent water loss.
Glycerin (Glycerol) – A skin moisturizer.
Cyclopentasiloxane – A silicone-based compound that makes cosmetics easier to spread, and provides a silky protective barrier once applied.
Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer – An ingredient found in cosmetics that “creates a gel-like consistency and stabilizes the formula.”
Shea Butter – A triglyceride (fat) extracted from the nut of the African shea tree that may have anti-inflammatory, “refatting,” and water-binding properties.
Jojoba Oil – May help sooth skin and unclog hair follicles.
Sweet Almond Oil – May help sooth mucus membranes and soften chapped skin.
Ozokerite Wax – A blend of hydrocarbon waxes that “increase viscosity, assist in emulsion stability and enhance gel strength in liquid and semi solid systems.”
Candelilla Wax – Another wax that’s frequently used in lip balms and lotions.
Ethylhexyl Palmitate – A derivative of palm oil that’s frequently used to provide a “dry slip” feel in lieu of silicone.
Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline – An amino acid that can provide skin conditioning benefits.
Menthoxypropanediol – Derived from menthol, this ingredient provides a cooling feeling when applied to skin.
Mango Oil – A fat that’s used to increase the spreadability of moisturizing products.
Squalene – Commonly used as a skin moisturizer in cosmetics.
Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer – A nonaqueous agent that increases the viscosity of cosmetics.
Phenoxyethanol – An ingredient that acts to preserve cosmetics by functioning as a disinfectant, antiseptic, or antibiotic.
Caprylyl Glycol – Can help stabilize cosmetics while providing moisturization.
Tribehenin – A mixture of glycerin and behenic acid that’s used as a conditioning agent in many cosmetics.
Sorbitan Isostearate – An emulsifier that “acts as a humectant to bind moisture, thicken the product, and stabilize the mixture of water and oils.”
Palmitoyl Oligopeptide – One of the primary ingredients found in the commonly used Matrixyl 3000 that works similar to Botox to prevent the contraction of facial muscles, leading to decreased lines and wrinkles.
Butylene Glycol – A family of four butanediols that are typically used as skin conditioning agents.
Vanillyl Butyl Ether – Another skin conditioning agent.
Flavor
Whew, that’s a whole lot of ingredients, right? But here’s the kicker: Other than menthol, there aren’t any ingredients contained in idol-Lips that would necessarily cause an immediate lip plumping, or that would keep your lips plumped for a worthwhile length of time.

In other words, the primary benefit provided by the vast majority of idol-Lips’s ingredients is to moisturize, which you could probably achieve by using a $2 tube of Chap-Stick.

Will idol-Lips Cause Any Side Effects?
Most of idol-Lips’s ingredients appear to be generally safe for use, although the most common side effects are skin irritation, rash, and allergic reactions. The menthol it contains may cause slight irritation and a tingling sensation that should pass within a few minutes of application.

However, the FDA issued a warning in 2013 stating that phenoxyethanol “can depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhea.”

Also, according to Truth In Aging, palmitoyl oligopeptide “can lead to glycation damage, or the process by which glucose links with proteins and causes them to bind together, stiffening tissues. This negatively affects the skin's support system, comprised of collagen, elastin and other proteins, and leads to wrinkles, sagging, and uneven skin tone.” In other words, this ingredient may actually cause the very conditions it claims to treat.

Are There Other Lip Plumpers Available?
In short, there are many options you can choose from, including popular options such as Lipsation and City Lips. In fact, a quick online search for “lip plumpers” through your favorite search engine will reveal hundreds of results from dozens of manufacturers, many of which are priced lower than idol-Lips (more about this in the Pricing section).

What’s An Arbitration Agreement?
Keep in mind that by placing your idol-Lips order, you’ll be submitting to an arbitration agreement. If you experience any damages from the use of idol-Lips, this means your legal rights could be severely limited, including a trial by jury or becoming part of a class action lawsuit.

Who’s Plumping Their Lips with idol-Lips?
Idol-Lips is promoted solely through a network of affiliates who earn commissions from each sale of the cosmetic they refer. Often times, these affiliates will stoop to less-than-stellar marketing practices, such as creating fake review websites. Ultimately, these are intended to make you think you’re reading about a real customer’s experience, when it’s actually just another sales pitch.

Outside of these affiliate reviews, there weren’t any legitimate online reviews for idol-Lips available at the time of our research.

From a company perspective, idol-Lips is manufactured by Santrinico Enterprises based out of Larnaca, Cyprus. The company isn’t listed with the Better Business Bureau, although we did learn that they manufacture numerous other products, including Green Coffee Bean Max, Alta White, Revitol, Garcinia Cambogia Select, and many more.

Overall, it appears numerous consumers have complained about free trials and subsequent autoship programs after purchasing these products, which is what we’ll discuss next.

Unlike many of the other skincare products we’ve reviewed (and unlike many of the company’s other products), it doesn’t appear you’ll be enrolled in any kind of autoship program after ordering idol-Lips.

All idol-Lips orders come with a 90-day refund policy, less S&H charges and a $10 per-item restocking fee. However, this refund policy only applies to unopened, unused items.

Can idol-Lips Give You the Lips of Your Dreams?
Chopping to the Point: Considering the fact that menthol is the only ingredient contained in idol-Lips that will reliably plump your lips, in addition to the product’s high price and the company’s poor online customer reputation, we’d recommend searching for lip plumping options at your local pharmacy before placing your idol-Lips order.
